What are the information_schema tables I see when viewing my database?

In each and every database there will be an entity whereby it is know as INFORMATION _SCHEMA which provides the access to the database metadata.

While Metadata is referring to the data of the database itself, such as the name of database or table, the data type of a column or access privileges. Other terms that are used to refer to this information are for example data dictionary and system catalog.

The definition that can provides clearer picture on what is INFORMATION_SCHEMA is that it is the information of a database which where the place that stores information about all the other databases that the MySQL server maintains. There are several read-only tables included under INFORMATION_SCHEMA that are actually able to be view, not base tables which are not associated with them.

Therefore you may safely ignore these tables. They are read-only so they cant be edited or removed. You may refer to this link for further information on INFORMATION_SCHEMA http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/information-schema.html
